Upasana Evangelia Artemis Papadopoulos

Upasana Evangelia Papadopoulos(she/her) is a musician, poet, arts-worker, studio assistant, art-writer, researcher and curator, currently based in Naarm (Melbourne, Australia).

Upasana began studying Art History and Curating in 2015 after several years studying and working as a Psychologist in Melbourne, Brisbane, Far North Queensland and Perth. The switch from the social sciences to visual arts came when she realised that the most powerful, honest, inclusive and impactful conversations and explorations of contemporary issues were occurring in the arts.

She holds an honours degree in (social/community) Psychology(Curtin University), a diploma in Art History and a Masters Degree in Art Curating(University of Sydney) and has been deeply informed by a partially completed degree in Media Studies (RMIT).

The topic of her (unpublished) Honours dissertation was ‘Moral Exclusion and the Pauline Hanson Phenomenon’, it was supervised by Dr Christopher Sonn and Professor Brian Bishop at Curtin University. The subject of her Masters dissertation was ‘Articulated Through Materiality: A Reclamation of the Feminine in Aboriginal Artistic and Cultural Practice’ which focused on the curatorial practice of Emily McDaniel.It was supervised by Dr Stephen Gilchrist.

She hopes to embark on a research-based PhD in art curating in the near future.

Upasana has a strong interest in Contemporary Art, the empowerment of art-audiences and particularly in Contemporary Aboriginal Art.She co-ordinates the Contemporary Art, Contemporary Conversations group via Meetup, Australia.
